SAGARDO FORUM 2025

The sixth edition of Sagardo Forum took place in Astigarraga and San Sebastian from 20th to 22nd November. Organised by Sagardoaren Lurraldea, this biennial event is the largest international cider event, a global showcase dedicated to cider and its culture, as well as apples and apple products.

It features an extensive programme of activities, including technical conferences led by national and international professionals, the 6th International Competition, which awards prizes for different types of cider and features cider experts from around the world, and the 4th International Cider Fair, where the public can taste all kinds of local, national and international ciders.

Once again, Asturian ciders shone at the competition, with the El Gaitero Group from Villaviciosa winning no less than 10 medals, five gold and five silver, as well as recognising El Gaitero Rosé as Best Cider in the Modern Cider category.

The Basque competition awarded gold medals to Valle, Ballina and Fernandez Brut Nature and Pomarina Brut ciders (both PDO Sidra de Asturias), as well as 1898 ice cider, El Gaitero 1/3 and El Gaitero Rosé. Silver medals went to El Gaitero Black Label, El Gaitero Natural Traditional, El Gaitero Natural Filtered (all three covered by the PDO Sidra de Asturias), as well as El Gaitero Extra and Gaitero Spanish Cider Red Grape.

Its ice cider deserves a special mention, as its name refers to the year in which the cidery was opened. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is one of the few in the world, and the only one in Europe, that is made by freezing the apples before pressing, as the most common practice is to freeze the resulting must.
