The Cider Museum of Nava hosted yesterday the awards ceremony of the XXIX Regional Cider Pourers Championship, in which Salvador Ondo (Tierra Astur cider house, Oviedo) was proclaimed winner for the fifth time, followed by Jorge Vargas (La Montera Picona cider bar, Gijon) and Wilkin Aquiles (Avenida cider house, Gijon).
El Museo de la Sidra de Nava acogió ayer la entrega de premios del XXIX Campeonato Regional de Escanciadores, en la que se proclamó vencedor por quinta vez Salvador Ondó (Sidrería Tierra Astur, Oviedo), seguido por Jorge Vargas (Sidrería La Montera Picona, Gijon) y Wilkin Aquiles (Sidrería Avenida, Gijon).
The category of Cider Pourer aims to be equivalent to sommelier – pommelier in this case – through a certificate of professionalism and thus achieve an economic and social recognition that it currently lacks.
La categoría de escanciador aspira a ser equivalente a sumiller- pommelier en este caso- a través de un certificado de profesionalidad y así conseguir un reconocimiento económico y social del que actualmente carece.
Once again supported by the Good Guild of Cider Advocates and Saul Moro, president of AESA (Asturian Association of Cider Pourers), the ten best classified pourers in the general category, as well as the first three in the under-25 category, received a diploma proving them as the best professionals in Asturias.
Arropados una vez más por la Buena Cofradía de los Siceratores y Saúl Moro, presidente de AESA (Asociación de Escanciadores de Asturias), los diez escanciadores mejor clasificados en la categoría general, así como los tres primeros de la categoría sub-25, recibieron un diploma que los acredita como los mejores profesionales de Asturias.

Once dressed in the traditional yellow montera picona– Asturian hat-, which recognises him as the Best Cider Pourer of Asturias, Salvador Ondo invited Ismael Tomas Montes, one of the most important figures of the Asturian tonada, a musical style traditionally associated with cider, to come on stage.
Una vez ataviado con la tradicional montera picona amarilla que le reconoce como Mejor Escanciador de Asturias, Salvador Ondó invitó a subir al escenario a Ismael Tomás Montes, una de las figuras más importantes de la tonada asturiana, estilo musical tradicionalmente asociado a la sidra.
The event served to highlight the value of a sign of identity of Asturias and the importance of its declaration as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
El evento sirvió para poner en valor una seña de identidad de Asturias y la importancia de su declaración como Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
