CATAVINUM WORLD WINE & SPIRITS COMPETITION (CWWSC)

This competition, organised and developed by Catavinum in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) and which began in 1998, aims to promote the quality and innovation of the best wines, spirits and other alcoholic beverages on the planet, including cider.

Its rigorous evaluation process and an internationally renowned jury encourage the production and elaboration of exceptional products, as well as their promotion within and beyond our borders, awarding diplomas and medals to the best products according to their score:

– Great Gold Medal: For those exceptional drinks that score between 95 and 100 points, representing the best in quality and excellence.

– Gold Medal: Recognises the distinction of beverages scoring between 89 and 94 points, highlighting their superiority and refinement.

– Silver Medal: Awarded to beverages scoring between 80 and 88 points, reflecting their outstanding quality and ability to delight the senses.

  • Medalla de Gran Oro: Para aquellas bebidas excepcionales que obtienen entre 95 y 100 puntos, representando lo mejor en calidad y excelencia.
  • Medalla de Oro: Reconoce la distinción de bebidas con puntuaciones entre 89 y 94 puntos, destacando su superioridad y refinamiento.
  • Medalla de Plata: Se otorga a bebidas que logran entre 80 y 88 puntos, reflejando su calidad notable y su capacidad para deleitar los sentidos.

The awards ceremony for this edition took place on 28 February with the participation of 2,970 products from over 20 countries, with several Spanish ciders winning.

El Lagar de Valleseco, located at the foot of Pico de La Laguna (Gran Canaria), has received four awards for the quality of its ciders: two gold medals for its Brut and Semi-dry ciders made using the traditional method; and two silver medals for its Natural Cider and Extra Lobo Cider.

These awards consolidate El Lagar de Valleseco, headed by its owner Angel Dominguez Ponce, as one of the best cider producers in the world, reflecting its commitment to quality and tradition.
