XLVIII NAVA CIDER FESTIVAL/ XLVIII Festival de la Sidra de Nava

On Monday 14th July, the celebrations for the XLVIII Nava Cider Festival came to an end. The varied programme of activities began on the 8th with the pre-selection for the Competition for the Best Natural Cider produced in the Principality of Asturias and in Nava, and reached its climax on Saturday 12th with the announcement of the winning ciders.

In this competition, which was attended by 36 cider mills from all over Asturias, Sidra Zapatero achieved a double victory, being chosen as the best regional natural cider and also the best cider from the municipality of Nava. Second prize went to Foncueva, from Sariego, and third place went to La Llarada, from Tineo. In the category of “Most Beautiful Label”, the winner was Sidra Riestra, from Sariego.

At midday on Sunday 13th July, the XXXVIII Cider Pouring Championship took place. The competition, in which 40 professionals participated, is the fourth held so far this year that counts towards the Asturias Championship. On this occasion, Jorge Vargas, from La Montera Picona de Ramon (Gijon), was proclaimed the winner in the overall classification, followed by Ruben Campa from La Bolera (Lugo de Llanera) and Wilkin Aquiles, also from La Montera Picona. Angel Martínez, from Sidreria Casa Dominganes, took first place in the local cider pourers category, and Melisa Bellon, from Tierra Astur, won the under-25 category, also achieving fourth place in the overall classification.
