ASTURIAS AND TRANSYLVANIA, TWINNED LANDS THROUGH CIDER/ Asturias y Transilvania, hermanadas por la sidra

On Monday 17th November, the Balada Cultural Centre Association in Gijon hosted the exhibition ‘Asturias and Transylvania: united by cider’, in which several artists from both regions displayed their works for a month, inspired by the designation of Asturian cider as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

On the same day, the Balada Awards ceremony was held, during which the work of people in different fields of culture, such as writers, musicians, photographers and painters, were recognised. On this occasion, I was proud to be awarded alongside other colleagues such as Fernando Paredano, Jackeline Marcano, Raul Moro and Llucia Fernandez for our work in promoting Asturian cider.

On Saturday 13th December, as part of the Christmas celebrations to mark Romania Day, I was invited to the Workers’ Institute of Lla Calzada in Gijon to receive another award, this time named after my blog Ciderayalga, alongside political and cultural authorities from Asturias.

The promoter of these events is Iulian Gabriel Neagu, known as the ‘Ambassador of Transylvania in Asturias’, a writer and photographer who is developing his series of collective exhibitions entitled ‘Asturias and Transylvania twinned’, an artistic project that promotes intercultural dialogue between the two communities. Through these exhibitions, the cultural projects coordinator at the Balada Centre invites attendees to discover the richness of two worlds with a profound creative expression, connected through art and tradition.

I could not be more proud and grateful to the Romanian community represented by Iulian Neagu and the Balada Cultural Centre for both recognitions and for encouraging regular meetings that demonstrate that Asturias and Transylvania are twinned lands with much in common, including cider.
