NAVA CIDER FESTIVAL ’26/ Festival de la Sidra de Nava ’26

Saturday 11 July marked the highlight of the 49th Nava Cider Festival, with the presentation of awards in the various competitive categories and a moving opening address delivered by sisters Laura and Susana Ovin, natives of Nava for whom cider culture has always run in the blood and who represent the legendary cider house La Barraca.

The prize for Best Cider from Asturias went to Sidra Contrueces, from Gijon, with La Llarada, from Tineo, coming second, and Sidra Camin, from Gijón, in third place. The prize for Best Local Cider went to Viuda de Corsino.

The remaining festival prizes, for innovative ciders and cider-based products, were awarded to the following cideries:

  • Best Table Cider (Naturally Filtered): El Gaitero Natural Ecologica PDO.
  • Best Endogenous Sparkling Cider: 1918 Ancestral Sidra Ramos.
  • Best Exogenous Sparkling Cider: Lagar Camin Dulce.
  • Best Rosé Cider: M. Norniella Rosé.
  • Best 1/3 Bottle (33 cl): Sidra Pomar.
  • Best Ice Cider: Sidra Hielo Cortina.
  • Best Apple Aperitif: Roxmut, by Sidra Castañon.
  • Best Cider Vinegar: Camin Organic Cider Vinegar.
  • Best Apple Orchard: Tierra del Medio.
  • Mejor Sidra de Mesa (Natural Filtrada): El Gaitero Natural Ecológica DOP.
  • Mejor Sidra Espumosa Endógena: 1918 Ancestral Sidra Ramos.
  • Mejor Sidra Espumosa Exógena: Lagar Camín Dulce.
  • Mejor Sidra Rosada: M. Norniella Rosé.
  • Mejor Formato Tercio (33 cl): Sidra Pomar.
  • Mejor Sidra de Hielo: Sidra Hielo Cortina.
  • Mejor Aperitivo de Manzana: Roxmut, de Sidra Castañón.
  • Mejor Vinagre de Sidra: Vinagre de Sidra Ecológico Camín.
  • Mejor Pomarada: Tierra del Medio.

As for the Cider Pouring Competition, first prize went to Jonathan Trabanco from Pola de Siero, who works at the Los Portales de Jaminon cider house.. After 24 years of competing, he has become world runner-up, third in the Asturias International Championship and winner of the TPA Cider Pouring Cup last year.

Second place went to Antonio Sorca, from the El Portal cider house in Villaviciosa, whilst third place was taken by Guillermo Gonzalez, from the El Bosque cider house in Oviedo. Issabella Padron was the winner in the under-25 category, and the Gijon-based cider house La Montera Picona de Ramon retained the award for best team.
